A. TERMS OF USE / COPYRIGHT & LICENSING (Binding on all readers/subscribers)

1) Ownership & License

• All posts, stories, essays, images, audio, and any other content in this Substack publication (the “Content”) are owned by Vera Meat.

• You receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to access and read the Content for private, non-commercial use only. No other rights are granted.

2) Absolutely Prohibited Uses

• No reproduction, distribution, republication, posting, scraping, archiving, translating, audio narration, adaptation, derivative works, or commercial use—without prior written permission from Vera.

• Do not submit any portion of the Content (including paraphrases or AI-rewrites) to contests, publications, platforms, or schools as your work.

• Do not feed, upload, or otherwise provide the Content to any AI/ML system, dataset, training corpus, search index, or text/data-mining workflow (including “research”/“non-commercial” TDM).

• No automated capture: bots, crawlers, or tools designed to copy/aggregate are prohibited.

3) Limited Excerpting Rule (what is allowed without asking)

• You may quote up to 100 words for commentary/review, non-commercial, with clear attribution (“by Vera Meat”) and a direct link to the original Substack post.

• You may share links to posts freely.

• All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

4) Enforcement & Remedies

• Violations may result in account blocking, revocation of access, DMCA/notice-and-takedown actions, and pursuit of legal/equitable remedies.

• You agree not to circumvent technical measures that restrict copying or access.

5) Subscriber Comments & Submissions

• You retain rights to your own comments, but by posting them here you grant Vera a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and reproduce your comments in this publication and related promotional contexts.

• Do not post infringing, defamatory, or unlawful material. Vera may remove content and/or restrict access at her discretion.

6) No Professional Advice; Availability

• Content is provided “as is,” without warranties. Access may change, move behind a paywall, or be removed.

7) Governing Law & Venue

• These terms are governed by the laws of New York, USA. Exclusive venue: state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.

• If any term is unenforceable, the remainder remains in effect.

8) Changes

• Terms may be updated. Continued access after updates constitutes acceptance.

B. PRIVACY POLICY (How reader data is handled)

1) Who we are

• This is the Substack publication operated by Vera Meat (“we/us”). Contact: manager@verameat.com.

2) What we collect

• Subscription data: email address, name (if provided).

• Technical data: IP address, device/browser info, general location, logs, cookies.

• Interaction data: opens/clicks, comments, messages you send us.

• Payment data: handled by Substack/its processors; we do not receive full payment card details.

3) How we use data

• To deliver emails, posts, and subscriber services; moderate comments; secure the site; analyze aggregate performance; comply with legal obligations; respond to requests.

4) Sharing

• Service providers that support delivery/analytics/payment (e.g., Substack infrastructure and its sub-processors). These providers may process data per their own policies and applicable law. We do not sell your personal data.

5) Cookies/Analytics

• Substack and integrated tools may set cookies or similar technologies for sign-in, performance, and analytics. You can manage cookies in your browser; some features may not function without them.

6) Data retention

C. COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT POLICY (DMCA-style)

1) Report infringement

If you believe your work—or Vera’s work—has been used here or elsewhere in a way that infringes copyright, email manager@verameat.com with:

• Your full name and contact info.

• A description and link to the original copyrighted work.

• A description and link to the allegedly infringing material.

• A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law.

• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

• Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name suffices).

2) Repeat-infringer policy

• Accounts/users repeatedly infringing may be terminated or blocked.

D. PERMISSIONS & LICENSING REQUESTS

• For uses beyond Section A(3) (e.g., excerpts >100 words, anthologies, translations, audio, classroom packs), email manager@verameat.com with details (work, word count, territory, format, print/digital run, dates).

E. TEXT & DATA MINING / AI OPT-OUT

• We expressly prohibit text/data mining, scraping, or ingestion of the Content by any automated system for AI/ML training, fine-tuning, embedding, or similar purposes, whether commercial or non-commercial.

• Contractual permission is required in advance for any such activity, and may be refused or conditioned on a written license and fee.
